A Tourist?s Guide to the UK - Travel - Travel Tips

The United Kingdom (UK) is a group of islands of the coast of France. It consists of several countries, including Scotland, England, Wales and (Northern Ireland). As the UK is so large, it has a wealth of both climates and landscapes, varying from sunny beaches to snow capped mountains.

Best Time to Travel to the UK

The UK is not best known for its good weather. In fact, the UK is probably better known for its abundance of rainfall (although in reality it doesn't rain any more in the United Kingdom than any other country). Winters are cold and often snowy and summers can be pleasant but generally the nice weather doesn't last very long. The UK is not really an ideal holiday destination for sun kissed holidays, unless you visit the coast of Cornwall, where the gulf stream reaches the island and you are able to find white sandy beaches and palm trees. The best periods to visit the United Kingdom really are in the winter and summer.

Attractions to See in the UK

There are so many attractions to see in the United Kingdom, regardless of which part you visit, that you could really spend an eternity visiting the different sights. There are many old castles and ruins as well as churches and cathedrals or ancient graveyards. The UK is filled with sites of historical significance, as so many cultures including the Romans have conquered the island at some point in history.

The UK also has many centres dedicated to arts and science and most towns and villages will have at least one museum dedicated to its history, of which entrance is often free.

Restaurants and Bars in the UK

The UK is, of course, best known for its fish and chips and you will find fish and chips restaurants wherever you go. There are also many Indian and Chinese restaurants, as well as takeaways offering a variety of kebabs and pizzas.

Certain areas of the UK have their own delicacies. In Scotland, for example, there is Haggis as well as deep fried food such as deep fried pizzas and Mars bars. In the North East of the UK, near Middlesbrough, you will be able to eat parmo's, which is chicken in batter with bchamel sauce and cheese.

The UK is not known for its gastronomic delights, in fact, a previous French president said that you could not trust a nation with such terrible food, but there are some true British meals that are certainly very enjoyable, if perhaps not overly healthy.

Inhabitants of the UK also very much enjoy an old-fashioned "pub crawl", meaning most areas of the UK will have some fantastic pubs and clubs for you to enjoy at night time.

Transport in the UK

If you are visiting the UK, hiring a car may be a great opportunity to see as much as possible, particularly since public transport is unreliable and quite expensive. All the major car rental companies such as Hertz and Avis operate in the UK, so you should have no difficulties in finding a car for hire. Remember to drive on the left side of the road!

A difference between Takeaway and Restaurant - Food - Restaurant Reviews

A Restaurant and Takeaway, both are same but it has some difference in service and cuisine. A Takeaway means prepared food that is intended to be eaten off of the premises. The Restaurant is an establishment which prepares and serves food and drink to customers in return for money. Takeaway food is often fast food, but not always so. Whereas fast food carries the connotation of a standardized product from a globalized chain or franchise, take-away outlets are often small businesses serving traditional food, which is sometimes but by no means always of high quality. In some cases, there are facilities for customers to order food by telephone, fax, or over the Internet, to be collected or delivered. This trend is thought to be on the rise as many small businesses take to the Web to promote their take-outs. Food that is delivered by a restaurant to a customer is also sometimes called take-out. Certain types of food that are normally served in sit-down restaurants are commonly available
