Love your takeaway then choose healthy Thai cuisine

When it comes to eating in or eating out, there is always some form of compromise that has to be made simply because of the lifestyles that we lead. In years gone by, it was always most certain that a housewife would prepare a fully cooked meal for the whole family to sit and enjoy in the evening. Fast forward to the present day and no longer is it a woman's job to cook a full meal. Busy lifestyles and time being limited it is almost difficult to cook a full meal after a long hard day at work. To compensate for our busy lifestyles, many takeaway options are now available and are now accounting for a large proportion of our diet.

When it comes to takeaway food, the first image that is conjured in our mind is that of junk food burgers, fries and fried greasy chicken. However, takeaway isn't just about these types of food. Many other types of cuisines are now becoming popular as takeaway options, simply because they offer health benefits. Cuisines including Thai a nd Japanese are now becoming popular choices.

Over the years people have been looking at their diet and ways of improving it to include healthier options. Yes, people try to limit the snack foods cakes, biscuits, crisps etc. But these principles are not applied to the Indian and Chinese takeaways that are eaten on a regular basis which contain huge amounts of fat, salt and sugar and although we know in the back of our minds that this is bad for our diet it doesn't stop us.
From all of the world cuisines that are available in the UK, it is Thai food which provides consistency as a healthy and well balanced diet. Thai food is an amalgamation of various different elements from around the continents taking all the best and healthy options of other countries and leaving out the not so healthy elements. Compared with an Indian chicken tikka masala dish served with pilau rice which is high in fat, choosing a Thai stir fried chicken dish with plain steamed or boiled rice means you are cutting out nearly all the fat that you would find in the Indian dish. As you look at more Thai alternative dishes you begin to realise the comparison in fat content.

Most of the ingredients used for Thai cooking often have benefits associated with them. Here are some ingredients used and the benefits to health:

Turmeric
Properties associated with turmeric include anti-flammatory and antioxidant elements. Both of these are great preventers for diseases and illnesses including cancer.

Lemon grass
Is one of the most popular ingredients used in Thai cooking. With its beautiful lemon fragrance it acts as a preventer for colds and flu. Not only that, but lemongrass also keeps the digestion system in good shape.

Coriander
Coriander is probably the most well known ingredient used in Thai cuisine. Like every other herb used in Thai cuisine, coriander is very good for the digestion system and also helps to strengthen the immune system. Thai cuisine includes a range of seafood, fish, salads which are all great alternatives to red meat dishes. Thai cuisine offers meals which are well balanced for a healthy diet.

So the next time you fancy a takeaway, why not call up your local Thai delivery restaurant and order a healthy well balanced meal.
