Bad Healthy Foods and Junk Food Alternatives to Reduce Abdominal Fat - Health - Nutrition

The ability to reduce abdominal fat appears to come easy for some people. Many people believe it has everything to do with genetics while others put their faith in exercise, healthy foods or weight loss pills. Some people simply give up in utter frustration.

The pure simplicity of reducing stubborn belly fat may surprise you. In this article we'll discuss healthy foods that aren't necessarily healthy and how to make junk foods healthier. Diets often deprive us of things we enjoy. Learn healthy secrets to happy and efficient weight loss and stomach fat reduction.

Bad "Healthy" Foods

We are taught throughout our lives to eat healthy foods and exercise to maintain a healthy body. Some of the foods we consider healthy actually help us retain stomach fat while foods we're taught are unhealthy help burn it.

Granola Bars: How could those delicious nuts, oats, seeds and dried fruit be bad for you? Most granola bars contain processed artificial ingredients. Some are even dipped in toppings like chocolate or sugary yogurts. Sure they taste good, but they aren't nearly as healthy as we've been lead to believe.

Tea: Tea is good for you overall. Make sure to read the label on your favorite tea drink to ensure you aren't drinking additives and more sugar than tea. You should ideally look for tea with fewer than 4 grams of sugar per serving. When possible make your own tea at home by brewing, chilling and flavoring it yourself.

Muffins: The nutritional value of a bran or berry muffin is debatable. A normal-size muffin made in your own kitchen is roughly the size of a tennis ball. You're looking at possibly 150 to 200 calories and around 5 grams of fat in a muffin this size. Unfortunately, every bakery seems to think bigger is better. Muffins you buy from your local bakery are often the size of a softball, or larger. These create a very unhealthy 500 to 700 calorie snack that should be avoided.

Pretzels: One of the most popular afternoon snacks. Pretzels help curb that salty, crispy craving and are much healthier than potato chips. Unfortunately, they are nutritionally void and one serving contains about 25 percent of the sodium you should have in an entire day.

Junk Food Junkies

Avoiding junk food isn't always as easy as we'd like for it to be. Our number one goal shouldn't be avoiding junk food. We are human after all, and often desire the things we know we should avoid. Consider the idea of tricking your body into a feeling of satisfaction instead of feeding the actual junk food craving.

Nuts, seeds, whole grains and vegetable sticks are much healthier alternatives to empty junk foods. Nuts and seeds contain vitamins, healthy fats, dietary fiber and even some protein. Pay attention to serving sizes and enjoy healthy alternatives as often as possible.

Fresh fruits and vegetables don't always cut it for the true junk food junkie. Try adding a light layer of peanut butter and half a banana to a small whole grain muffin or a rice cake. The peanut butter adds a bit of protein, the banana adds potassium, and both are healthy alternatives to a muffin or candy bar.

Reduce Abdominal Fat Quickly

Healthy foods, exercise and water can only go so far to reduce abdominal fat. Exercise is a must, but you don't have to work yourself to a frazzle at the gym to reduce belly fat. Most traditional abdominal exercises do not actually work the abs in a way that gets rid of stomach fat. The key to obtaining six pack abs is simply to eat the right foods and do the right combination of exercises.
