Orange County Search Engine Optimization - 30DC Day 9 How Running on a Treadmill is Equivalent of Running a Small Business - Advertising
Welcome to day 9 of the 30 day challenge where we give daily social media marketing tips to double your business...
Takeaway: let technology help you manage the chaos and you can focus on value creation activities
So there i was on the treadmill with my personal trainer at the side...
I saw the smirk at the corner of my eye on how slowly i was going on the treadmill.
He then doubled my speed to 6.0
Good pace. Light stroll. My legs were moving in a steady way. My breathing got heavier.
Then he slowly(or wast it fast) turned up the heat he entire time I jogged,
He kept increasing the speed of the treadmill.
By the time the machine hit 7.2 I was struggling to breath and i started to watch the trainer's every movement closely.
Again, the trainer reached out and boosted the speed more to 7.3.
So i was like...'how fast are we gonna go?'
'Let's see'
I would continue to run to prove what i am made of to a complete stranger. No way I would hit the stop button so quickly.
(With a name that means strong will in Chinese, i am not one to quit.)
The speed keeps getting higher and higher 7.4, 7.5, 7.6...in my mind i was thinking...
'Holy bleep, i better keep going otherwise, I will be on my face soon'
My lungs were on fire and legs were out of control.
Eventually I jumped off and was bending over and grabbing my knees dying for oxygen.
For the next few days, my body was filled with lactic acid and everything was sore and tight.
For the entrepreneur, starting a business is like jumping onto a treadmill. You know it'll take work and you know you can handle it especially you are in control of the speed dial.
But, here is the problem, as soon as you step onto the machine, the control is no longer yours.
A trainer in the name of 'CUSTOMER' has just com up next to you. And he is increasing the speed on the treadmill whenever he wants in spite of your inner complaint.
In front of you is a fellow gym member who is fit and trim and looks exactly the way you want to look. He made it look so easy and he is who you want to be someday.
This person seems to be taunting you with his perfect fitness.Still you can bear the challenge. That is until another trainer, bearing the name of 'PAYROLL' starts to yell at you from behind, followed by other trainers called 'COMPETITION', 'TECHNOLOGY', 'COMPLIANCE', and so on.
These trainers are constantly raising the inclines and speed of your treadmill, making your workout harder, and are constantly reminding you that you must keep running if you don't want to die of shame and let down a whole bunch of people who depend on you. (If I fail, what about their families?)
You get the picture right?
Only those who have experienced small business ownership will ever be able to understand the chaos that comes from being a small business owner. Before I go on and share what lessons and solutions I have come across...I want to know...
