Do You Know How To Make Yourself Happy...And Tune Out The Outside World? - Business - Entrepreneurship
One of the things that I realized at the end of 2009 was that I spent the past year trying to do things in the format that others said they should be done. What came of this? I was miserable and procrastinated on EVERYTHING that I was doing in someone else's format. My house got really clean, my stack of magazines went WAY down, I talked on the phone more than I usually do...you get the picture.
I found that I was trying to put myself into the format that others said worked. BUT, it didn't work for me! I was less than authentic because I was trying to fit into what everyone else said worked.
One example of this is blog posts. I was told about this "special" formula for blog writing. I was ghost writing for others at this time as well. I had such a hard time with theirs that I just stopped doing my own all together. Writing was no longer fun for me. Being that I LOVE writing this was not good. I took a long hard look at what I was doing and decided that1.) Writing someone else's blog posts was really not for me2.) Putting my writing in a formula was what I dreaded.
I couldn't stand to write because I was trying to be something I was not. So this year I decided to throw the "special" formula out the window and do this from my heart. I actually look forward to writing again and am not concerned about the Google rankings and how many hits there are on a keyword and how to fit that keyword numerous times into my blog post and make it make sense.
I entered the new year saying no to work that did not fit with me or make me happy and my year has started off tremendously. I love what I do again and look forward to working, I spend more time with my family which to me is top priority and why I started my own business in the first place.
I have opened myself up to new opportunities and am currently working on a couple of JV projects that will be fabulous and launched in a few months.
There has been so much excitement and joy in my life since I started making myself happy and stopped trying to fit into someone else's idea of what works.
The takeaway here is to look at the information you are given because some of it is going to work for you and help you to expand quickly. The information that does not work for you...take it, revamp it to fit your style and see what happens. You may surprise yourself and develop a new system that you can use to help other people just like you!
